THE PLACE
The Tampita Viharaya at Weligodapola Sri Dharmarama Pirivena is among the larger surviving examples of this Kandyan building tradition in Kandy District. Its image house is raised above ground on supports and surrounded by a narrow circumambulatory path, with a porch extending from the front. The complete raised structure is substantially larger than the enclosed shrine chamber. The monument was declared archaeologically protected in 2002. Interior access and the condition of paintings or images should be confirmed at the temple rather than assumed.
