THE PLACE

Yatawatta Purana Viharaya also known Pahalagama Pirivena to the people in the area and is listed in the famous Nam Potha published during the Kandyan era.

The Temple is supposed to have been constructed during the reign of King Parakramabahu VI (1411-1463) however the inscription on the door frame depicts the date as 21 March 1861. This Tampita Viharaya is 20 feet long and 16 feet wide with a 2 1/2 feet wide path built around the chamber to walk around. And the 3 feet high wall secures the path. Tampita Vihara can be reached on the Pahalagama road.
