The Manalkadu Dutch Church Ruins

The Manalkadu Dutch Church ruins in Jaffna are a sad reminder of colonial history and nature's quiet reclamation. They are located in the northernmost tip of Sri Lanka, among the windswept sand dunes. The coral-stone walls of this building, which was built during the Dutch period and has been empty for a long time, now appear and disappear under shifting dunes. This shows how time has passed and how the landscape has always been dramatic.
The church's walls, which are partly buried in sand, give visitors a haunting look at a time when colonial ambition met the raw forces of nature.
The site is in the village of Manalkadu and makes you think not only about architecture and empire, but also about how the relationship between people and the land is always changing.
