Peraheras and National Festivals

Perahera is the Sinhalese term for a parade. The perahera is a large collection of musicians, dancers, acrobats, singers, fire dancers and other performers accompanied by grandly adorned elephants that parade the streets in celebration of a religious event. Visitors will find the sight of the perahera very entertaining with its natural charm and colourful costumes. Various religious festivals to others such as the Galle Literary Festival that bring international coverage and the celebration of Sri Lanka’s Independence Day where traditions take place, the history, culture and pure sincerity of the people are evident.
