Stupas

Stupas or dagebas also called Chaithya, are considered an outstanding type of architecture of ancient Sri Lanka. With the help of Buddhism, there were several changes made. The stupa becoming the most prominent of these changes. Other names include the Chaithya, Dagaba, Thupa, Seya and Vehera. The stupas that were designed and constructed on the island were the largest structures made out of brick, known to the pre-modern world.
